UserVoice

UserVoice is a customer feedback and idea management platform for collecting, analyzing, and acting on product feedback across forums, suggestions, and feature tracking. Nexla connects to the UserVoice Admin API v2 to ingest feedback data into your pipelines and to push new suggestions and notes back into UserVoice.

Prerequisites

Before creating a UserVoice credential, you need your UserVoice account subdomain and an API access token. UserVoice API v2 uses Bearer token authentication, with the token sent in the Authorization header. All requests are made over HTTPS to your account's base URL, which follows the pattern https://SUBDOMAIN.uservoice.com/api/v2/, where SUBDOMAIN is your UserVoice account subdomain.

To obtain your UserVoice API credentials, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your UserVoice Admin Console as an administrator.

  2. Navigate to Settings > Integrations > UserVoice API keys.

  3. Click Add API Key... and enter a descriptive name for the client (for example, "Nexla Integration"). Leave the Application URL and Callback URL fields empty, and ensure the Trusted checkbox is selected.

  4. Click Add API key to create the client.

  5. Locate your new client in the list and click Create to generate and display the access token. Copy this token, as it is used to authenticate all API requests.

  6. Note your account subdomain from your UserVoice URL. For example, if you access UserVoice at https://acme.uservoice.com, then your subdomain is acme.

Tokens generated through the UserVoice UI do not expire unless they are explicitly revoked. Store the access token securely, as it grants access to your UserVoice account data. For detailed information about authentication and available endpoints, refer to the UserVoice API Documentation.

Create a credential in Nexla

  1. After selecting the data source/destination type, click the Add Credential tile to open the Add New Credential overlay.

  2. Enter a name for the credential in the Credential Name field and a short, meaningful description in the Credential Description field.

  3. Enter your UserVoice account subdomain in the Subdomain field. This is the first part of your UserVoice URL (for example, acme for https://acme.uservoice.com) and is used to construct the API base URL for your account.

  4. Enter your UserVoice API access token in the API Key Value field. This is the token you generated in Prerequisites. Nexla sends it as a Bearer token in the Authorization header for all API requests and keeps it confidential.

If your access token is compromised, revoke it in your UserVoice Admin Console under Settings > Integrations > UserVoice API keys and generate a new one. The access token provides access to your UserVoice account data and should be treated as sensitive information.

For detailed information about authentication, API scopes, and available endpoints, see the UserVoice API Documentation.

  5. Click the Save button at the bottom of the overlay. The newly added credential will now appear in a tile on the Authenticate screen during data source/destination creation.

Use as a data source

To create a new data flow, navigate to the Integrate section, and click the New Data Flow button. Select the UserVoice connector tile, then select the credential that will be used to connect to the UserVoice instance, and click Next; or, create a new UserVoice credential for use in this flow.

Sample data will be displayed in the Endpoint Test Result panel on the right, allowing you to verify that the source is configured correctly before saving.

Manual configuration

UserVoice data sources can also be manually configured to ingest data from any valid UserVoice Admin API endpoint, including endpoints not covered by the pre-built templates, chained API calls, or custom request parameters. Select the Advanced tab at the top of the configuration screen, and follow the instructions in Connect to Any API to configure the API method, endpoint URL, date/time and lookup macros, path to data, metadata, and request headers.

Once all of the relevant settings have been configured, click the Create button in the upper right corner of the screen to save and create the new UserVoice data source. Nexla will now begin ingesting data from the configured endpoint and will organize any data that it finds into one or more Nexsets.

Use as a destination

Click the + icon on the Nexset that will be sent to the UserVoice destination, and select the Send to Destination option from the menu. Select the UserVoice connector from the list of available destination connectors, then select the credential that will be used to connect to the UserVoice account, and click Next; or, create a new UserVoice credential for use in this flow.

Endpoint templates

Nexla provides pre-built templates that can be used to rapidly configure destinations to send data to common UserVoice endpoints. Select the endpoint to which data will be sent from the Endpoint pulldown menu. Then, click on the template in the list below to expand it, and follow the instructions to configure additional endpoint settings.

[Rest API] Create Suggestion

Creates a new suggestion in the specified forum.

  • Each record from your Nexset is sent as a separate request to the UserVoice Admin API. The request body must match the field structure that UserVoice expects for this operation.

[Rest API] Update Suggestion

Updates an existing suggestion by its ID.

  • Each record from your Nexset is sent as a separate request to the UserVoice Admin API. The request body must match the field structure that UserVoice expects for this operation.

[Rest API] Delete Suggestion

Deletes an existing suggestion by its ID.

  • Each record from your Nexset is sent as a separate request to the UserVoice Admin API. The request body must match the field structure that UserVoice expects for this operation.

[Rest API] Create Note

Creates a new note attached to a suggestion or user.

  • Each record from your Nexset is sent as a separate request to the UserVoice Admin API. The request body must match the field structure that UserVoice expects for this operation.

Manual configuration

UserVoice destinations can also be manually configured to send data to any valid UserVoice Admin API endpoint. Select the Advanced tab at the top of the configuration screen, and follow the instructions in Connect to Any API to configure the API method, data format, endpoint URL, request headers, attribute exclusions, record batching, and response webhooks.

UserVoice APIs expect JSON format for create and update operations. For update and delete operations, include the ID of the target object at the end of the endpoint URL.

Save & activate

Once all endpoint settings have been configured, click the Done button in the upper right corner of the screen to save and create the destination. To send the data to the configured UserVoice endpoint, open the destination resource menu, and select Activate.

The Nexset data will not be sent to the UserVoice endpoint until the destination is activated. Destinations can be activated immediately or at a later time, providing full control over data movement.
