TikTok Marketing

The TikTok Marketing API (TikTok Business API) lets advertisers programmatically manage advertising on TikTok, including advertisers, campaigns, ad groups, ads, audiences, and creative assets. Nexla connects to the TikTok Marketing API to ingest advertising data for reporting and analytics, and to create and update campaigns, ad groups, and ads.

Prerequisites

Before creating a TikTok Marketing credential, you need a TikTok Business API access token and the API base URL. The access token is sent in the Access-Token header on every request. TikTok issues access tokens through an OAuth 2.0 advertiser-authorization flow, in which an advertiser grants your developer app permission to manage their advertising accounts.

To obtain your TikTok Marketing API credentials, follow these steps:

  1. Register a developer account and create an app in the TikTok for Business Developers portal. Creating an app produces an App ID and App Secret, and lets you configure the redirect URI and the scopes your app requires.

  2. Direct the advertiser to TikTok's OAuth authorization page, where they log in and approve the scopes your app requests. After approval, TikTok redirects to your configured redirect URI with a short-lived authorization code in the query string.

  3. Exchange the authorization code for an access token by calling the token endpoint at https://business-api.tiktok.com/open_api/v1.3/oauth2/access_token/ with your App ID, App Secret, and the authorization code. The response returns the access token along with the list of advertiser IDs the token is authorized to manage.

  4. Note the API base URL, which is https://business-api.tiktok.com. Nexla combines this with the request path for each endpoint.

  5. Store the access token securely. It authenticates all requests and grants access to the advertising accounts and scopes the advertiser approved. If the token is compromised, revoke the authorization and generate a new one.

For detailed information about app registration, OAuth authorization, token management, and available endpoints, see the TikTok Marketing API documentation and the TikTok API authorization guide.

Create a credential in Nexla

  1. After selecting the data source/destination type, click the Add Credential tile to open the Add New Credential overlay.

  2. Enter a name for the credential in the Credential Name field and a short, meaningful description in the Credential Description field.

  3. Enter your TikTok Business API access token in the Access Token field. This token is sent in the Access-Token header for all requests to the TikTok Marketing API and must be kept confidential.

  4. Enter the API base URL in the Base URL field. For the TikTok Marketing API this is https://business-api.tiktok.com.

If your access token is compromised, revoke the advertiser authorization in your TikTok developer app and generate a new token. The access token grants access to the advertising accounts and scopes the advertiser approved, and should be treated as sensitive information.

For detailed information about OAuth authorization, token management, and available endpoints, see the TikTok Marketing API documentation.

  5. Click the Save button at the bottom of the overlay. The newly added credential will now appear in a tile on the Authenticate screen during data source/destination creation.

Use as a data source

To create a new data flow, navigate to the Integrate section, and click the New Data Flow button. Select the TikTok Marketing connector tile, then select the credential that will be used to connect to the TikTok Marketing API, and click Next; or, create a new TikTok Marketing credential for use in this flow.
