Snapchat Marketing

The Snapchat Marketing API provides programmatic access to Snapchat's advertising platform, letting you manage organizations, ad accounts, campaigns, ad squads, ads, creatives, media, and audience segments, and pull performance measurement stats. Nexla connects to the Marketing API to ingest ad and reporting data and to push campaign, ad squad, ad, and creative objects back to Snapchat.

Prerequisites

The Snapchat Marketing API uses OAuth 2.0 with the refresh-token grant. Before creating a credential in Nexla, you need an OAuth app registered in Snap Business Manager and the IDs of the organization, ad account, and (for some operations) campaign and ad squad you want to work with.

To prepare your Snapchat credentials, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Snap Business Manager as an Organization Admin.

  2. In Business Details, agree to the Snap Developer Terms and Snap Business Tools Terms if you have not already done so.

  3. Create an OAuth app by following Snapchat's API access setup guide. Provide an app name and a redirect URI. Snapchat generates a client ID and client secret at creation time. The client secret is shown only once, so record it immediately.

  4. Request the snapchat-marketing-api scope when authorizing the app. This scope grants read and write access to the Marketing API. Completing the OAuth authorization flow yields a long-lived refresh token that is exchanged for short-lived access tokens.

  5. Note the Organization ID and Ad Account ID you plan to use. These scope the ad-account listings and ad-account-level resources. If you intend to create ad squads or ads, also note the relevant Campaign ID and Ad Squad ID.

For details on authentication, tokens, and available resources, see the Snapchat Marketing API documentation.

Organization IDYesNoSnapchat Business organization ID used to scope ad-account listings.
Ad Account IDYesNoSnapchat ad account ID used to scope ad-account-level resources.

Create a credential in Nexla

  1. After selecting the data source/destination type, click the Add Credential tile to open the Add New Credential overlay.

  2. Enter a name for the credential in the Credential Name field and a short, meaningful description in the Credential Description field.

  3. Complete the OAuth 2.0 authorization flow when prompted to grant Nexla access to your Snapchat Marketing account. This step provides the refresh token Nexla uses to obtain access tokens for API requests.

  4. Enter your Organization ID and Ad Account ID to scope the resources this credential will access. Optionally enter a Campaign ID and Ad Squad ID if you plan to create ad squads or ads with this credential.

Keep your Snapchat OAuth client secret and refresh token confidential. If either is compromised, revoke and regenerate the app credentials in Snap Business Manager. For more information, see the Snapchat Marketing API documentation.

  5. Click the Save button at the bottom of the overlay. The newly added credential will now appear in a tile on the Authenticate screen during data source/destination creation.

Use as a data source

To create a new data flow, navigate to the Integrate section, and click the New Data Flow button. Select the Snapchat Marketing connector tile, then select the credential that will be used to connect to Snapchat, and click Next; or, create a new Snapchat Marketing credential for use in this flow.

Once the selected endpoint template has been configured, click the Test button to the right of the endpoint selection menu to retrieve a sample of the data that will be fetched. Sample data will be displayed in the Endpoint Test Result panel on the right, allowing you to verify that the source is configured correctly before saving.

Manual configuration

Snapchat Marketing data sources can also be manually configured to ingest data from any valid Snapchat Marketing API endpoint, including endpoints not covered by the pre-built templates, chained API calls, or custom request parameters. Select the Advanced tab at the top of the configuration screen, and follow the instructions in Connect to Any API to configure the API method, endpoint URL, date/time and lookup macros, path to data, metadata, and request headers.

Once all of the relevant settings have been configured, click the Create button in the upper right corner of the screen to save and create the new Snapchat Marketing data source. Nexla will now begin ingesting data from the configured endpoint and will organize any data that it finds into one or more Nexsets.

Use as a destination

Click the + icon on the Nexset that will be sent to the Snapchat Marketing destination, and select the Send to Destination option from the menu. Select the Snapchat Marketing connector from the list of available destination connectors, then select the credential that will be used to connect to Snapchat, and click Next; or, create a new Snapchat Marketing credential for use in this flow.

Endpoint templates

Nexla provides pre-built templates that can be used to rapidly configure destinations to send data to common Snapchat Marketing endpoints. Select the endpoint to which data will be sent from the Endpoint pulldown menu. Then, click on the template in the list below to expand it, and follow the instructions to configure additional endpoint settings.

[Rest API] Create Campaign

Create a new campaign under an ad account. Each record from your Nexset is sent as the JSON body of a request to create a campaign.

For more information, see the Snapchat Campaigns documentation.

[Rest API] Update Campaign

Update an existing campaign under an ad account. Each record from your Nexset is sent as the JSON body of a request to update a campaign.

For more information, see the Snapchat Campaigns documentation.

[Rest API] Create Ad Squad

Create a new ad squad under a campaign. Each record from your Nexset is sent as the JSON body of a request to create an ad squad.

For more information, see the Snapchat Ad Squads documentation.

[Rest API] Create Ad

Create a new ad under an ad squad. Each record from your Nexset is sent as the JSON body of a request to create an ad.

For more information, see the Snapchat Ads documentation.

[Rest API] Create Creative

Create a new creative under an ad account. Each record from your Nexset is sent as the JSON body of a request to create a creative.

For more information, see the Snapchat Creatives documentation.

Manual configuration

Snapchat Marketing destinations can also be manually configured to send data to any valid Snapchat Marketing API endpoint. Select the Advanced tab at the top of the configuration screen, and follow the instructions in Connect to Any API to configure the API method, data format, endpoint URL, request headers, attribute exclusions, record batching, and response webhooks.

Save & activate

Once all endpoint settings have been configured, click the Done button in the upper right corner of the screen to save and create the destination. To send the data to the configured Snapchat Marketing endpoint, open the destination resource menu, and select Activate.

The Nexset data will not be sent to the Snapchat Marketing endpoint until the destination is activated. Destinations can be activated immediately or at a later time, providing full control over data movement.
