Prerequisites

Before creating an AppFollow credential in Nexla, you need to have an AppFollow account and obtain your API key. This credential authenticates Nexla with the AppFollow API and should be kept secure.

To obtain an AppFollow API key, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your AppFollow account.

  2. Navigate to your account settings or API settings to access API configuration options.

  3. Locate the API section in your account settings. This section contains your API credentials and access tokens.

  4. Generate or copy your API Key. The API key is a secret token that authenticates API requests and provides access to your AppFollow account data. The API key is sent in the X-AppFollow-API-Token header for all API requests.

Your API key provides full access to your AppFollow account data through the API. Keep your API key secure and do not share it publicly or commit it to version control systems. If you suspect your API key has been compromised, regenerate it immediately in your AppFollow account settings. For detailed information about AppFollow API authentication, see the AppFollow API documentation.

Create a credential in Nexla

  1. After selecting the data source/destination type, click the Add Credential tile to open the Add New Credential overlay.

New Credential Overlay – AppFollow API

  1. Enter a name for the credential in the Credential Name field and a short, meaningful description in the Credential Description field.

  2. Enter your AppFollow API key in the API Key Value field. This key authenticates Nexla with the AppFollow API and should match the API key obtained from your AppFollow account settings. The API key is sent in the X-AppFollow-API-Token header for all API requests.

The API key provides full access to your AppFollow account data through the API. Keep your API key secure and do not share it publicly or commit it to version control systems. AppFollow uses the API key in the X-AppFollow-API-Token header for authentication, which allows Nexla to make authenticated requests to your account.

  3. Click the Save button at the bottom of the overlay. The newly added credential will now appear in a tile on the Authenticate screen during data source/destination creation.

Use as a data source

To create a new data flow, navigate to the Integrate section, and click the New Data Flow button. Select the AppFollow connector tile, then select the credential that will be used to connect to the AppFollow instance, and click Next; or, create a new AppFollow credential for use in this flow.

Endpoint templates

Nexla provides pre-built templates that can be used to rapidly configure data sources to ingest data from common AppFollow endpoints. Select the endpoint from which this source will fetch data from the Endpoint pulldown menu. Available endpoint templates are listed in the expandable boxes below.

General App Collection list

This endpoint retrieves the app collection list from your AppFollow account. Use this endpoint when you need to access information about your app collections for analysis or integration with other systems.

  • This endpoint automatically retrieves all app collections from your AppFollow account. No additional configuration is required beyond selecting this endpoint template.
  • The endpoint will return app collection information including collection names, IDs, and other metadata.

For detailed information about retrieving app collections, see the AppFollow API documentation.

List Of Apps From The Collection

This endpoint retrieves a list of apps from a specific app collection. Use this endpoint when you need to access information about apps within a particular collection.

  • Enter the Apps ID of the collection you want to retrieve apps from in the Apps ID field. Apps IDs can be obtained by first using the "General App Collection list" endpoint to retrieve available collections and their corresponding IDs.
  • The endpoint will return all apps within the specified collection, including app names, IDs, and other metadata.

Apps IDs can be obtained by first using the "General App Collection list" endpoint to retrieve available collections and their corresponding IDs. For detailed information about retrieving apps from collections, see the AppFollow API documentation.

Reviews

This endpoint retrieves reviews from an application or collection. Use this endpoint when you need to access app store reviews for analysis, sentiment analysis, or integration with other systems.

  • Enter the External ID (ext_id) of the app or collection in the Ext ID field. External IDs can be obtained from your AppFollow account or by using other endpoints to retrieve app information.
  • Enter the start date for the review retrieval period in the From field. This should be in the format YYYY-MM-DD.
  • Enter the end date for the review retrieval period in the To field. This should be in the format YYYY-MM-DD.
  • The endpoint uses page-based pagination, automatically fetching additional pages as needed. The endpoint will return all reviews within the specified date range, organized into pages for efficient data retrieval.

This endpoint supports pagination through page parameters. Nexla automatically handles pagination to retrieve all available reviews. For detailed information about retrieving reviews, see the AppFollow API documentation.

Stat Reviews Replies

This endpoint retrieves statistics about review replies for an application. Use this endpoint when you need to access metrics about review response activity for analysis or reporting.

  • Enter the External ID (ext_id) of the app in the Ext ID field. External IDs can be obtained from your AppFollow account or by using other endpoints to retrieve app information.
  • Enter the User ID of the user who replied to reviews in the Answer User ID field. This filters the statistics to show replies from a specific user.
  • Enter the date for which you want to retrieve statistics in the Date field. This should be in the format YYYY-MM-DD.
  • Enter the start date for the statistics period in the From field. This should be in the format YYYY-MM-DD.
  • Enter the end date for the statistics period in the To field. This should be in the format YYYY-MM-DD.

For detailed information about retrieving review reply statistics, see the AppFollow API documentation.

Once the selected endpoint template has been configured, click the Test button to the right of the endpoint selection menu to retrieve a sample of the data that will be fetched. Sample data will be displayed in the Endpoint Test Result panel on the right, allowing you to verify that the source is configured correctly before saving.

Manual configuration

AppFollow data sources can also be manually configured to ingest data from any valid AppFollow API endpoint, including endpoints not covered by the pre-built templates, chained API calls, or custom request parameters. Select the Advanced tab at the top of the configuration screen, and follow the instructions in Connect to Any API to configure the API method, endpoint URL, date/time and lookup macros, path to data, metadata, and request headers.

AppFollow API endpoints typically follow the pattern https://api.appfollow.io/api/v2/{endpoint_path}. When setting the path to data for JSON responses, use a JSON path such as $.apps[*] to access an array of apps or $.list[*] to access an array of reviews. For a complete list of available AppFollow API endpoints, see the AppFollow API documentation.

Once all of the relevant settings have been configured, click the Create button in the upper right corner of the screen to save and create the new AppFollow data source. Nexla will now begin ingesting data from the configured endpoint and will organize any data that it finds into one or more Nexsets.
