Prerequisites

Before creating a Porta Billing credential, you need to obtain your login credentials (username and password) from your Porta Billing account. Porta Billing uses token-based authentication, where your username and password are used to obtain an access token that is then used for all subsequent API requests.

To obtain your Porta Billing credentials, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Porta Billing account using your administrator credentials.

  2. Navigate to your account settings or user management section in the Porta Billing interface.

  3. Look for your Login (username) and Password in your account settings, or navigate to Settings > User Management or Account > Profile.

  4. If you don't have API access credentials yet, contact your Porta Billing administrator to create a user account with API access permissions.

  5. Ensure your account has the necessary permissions to access the Porta Billing API endpoints you need to use.

  6. Store your login credentials securely, as you will need them to configure your Nexla credential. The username and password are sensitive information and should be kept confidential.

The username and password are used to authenticate with the Porta Billing API authentication endpoint (/rest/Session/login) to obtain an access token. The access token is then sent in the Authorization header with the Bearer prefix for all subsequent API requests to the Porta Billing API. The access token is automatically obtained and refreshed by Nexla as needed. If your credentials are compromised, you should immediately change your password in your Porta Billing account settings. For detailed information about Porta Billing authentication, API access, and available endpoints, refer to the Porta Billing API documentation.

  1. Enter a name for the credential in the Credential Name field and a short, meaningful description in the Credential Description field.

  2. Enter your Porta Billing username in the Login field. This is the username (login) you use to sign in to your Porta Billing account. The username is used along with the password to authenticate with the Porta Billing API authentication endpoint and obtain an access token.

  3. Enter your Porta Billing password in the Password field. This is the password you use to sign in to your Porta Billing account. The password is used along with the username to authenticate with the Porta Billing API authentication endpoint and obtain an access token. The password is sensitive information and must be kept confidential.

Your Porta Billing credentials are the same username and password you use to sign in to your Porta Billing account. The username and password are used to authenticate with the Porta Billing API authentication endpoint (/rest/Session/login) to obtain an access token. The access token is then automatically sent in the Authorization: Bearer {token} header for all subsequent API requests to the Porta Billing API.

The access token is automatically obtained and refreshed by Nexla as needed. If your credentials are compromised, you should immediately change your password in your Porta Billing account settings. The username and password provide access to your Porta Billing account data and should be treated as sensitive information. Keep your credentials secure and do not share them publicly.

For detailed information about Porta Billing authentication, API access, and available endpoints, see the Porta Billing API documentation.

  4. Click the Save button at the bottom of the overlay. The newly added credential will now appear in a tile on the Authenticate screen during data source/destination creation.

Use as a data source

To create a new data flow, navigate to the Integrate section, and click the New Data Flow button. Select the Porta Billing connector tile, then select the credential that will be used to connect to your Porta Billing account, and click Next; or, create a new Porta Billing credential for use in this flow.

Endpoint templates

Nexla provides pre-built templates that can be used to rapidly configure data sources to ingest data from common Porta Billing endpoints. Select the endpoint from which this source will fetch data from the Endpoint pulldown menu. Available endpoint templates are listed in the expandable boxes below.

List resources

This endpoint template lists resources from your Porta Billing account. Use this template when you need to retrieve information about various resources such as currencies, customers, or other service endpoints from your Porta Billing account.

  • Enter the service name in the Service field. This should be the service name you want to query (e.g., Currency, Customer). The service determines which Porta Billing service will be queried.
  • Enter the service endpoint in the Service endpoint field. This should be the endpoint that can be invoked on the selected service (e.g., get_currency_list, get_batch_list). The service endpoint determines which specific endpoint will be called on the selected service.

This endpoint lists resources from your Porta Billing account using the specified service and service endpoint. The endpoint uses offset-based pagination to handle large datasets efficiently. Nexla will automatically fetch subsequent pages of data by incrementing the offset. The endpoint returns up to 100 records per page by default.

For detailed information about resource listing, API response structures, pagination, and available services, see the Porta Billing API documentation.

Once the selected endpoint template has been configured, click the Test button to the right of the endpoint selection menu to retrieve a sample of the data that will be fetched. Sample data will be displayed in the Endpoint Test Result panel on the right, allowing you to verify that the source is configured correctly before saving.

Manual configuration

Porta Billing data sources can also be manually configured to ingest data from any valid Porta Billing API endpoint, including endpoints not covered by the pre-built templates, chained API calls, or custom query parameters. Select the Advanced tab at the top of the configuration screen, and follow the instructions in Connect to Any API to configure the API method, endpoint URL, response data path, and pagination.

The Porta Billing API typically uses the POST method for retrieving data, and uses offset-based pagination with offset and limit for most endpoints (e.g., https://akweb.portaone.com:443/rest/Currency/get_currency_list). For the Response Data Path, use $.[*] to extract all items from the response array, or $ to extract the entire response for single record endpoints, depending on your endpoint.

Once all of the relevant settings have been configured, click the Create button in the upper right corner of the screen to save and create the new Porta Billing data source. Nexla will now begin ingesting data from the configured endpoint and will organize any data that it finds into one or more Nexsets.

Use as a destination

Click the + icon on the Nexset that will be sent to the Porta Billing destination, and select the Send to Destination option from the menu. Select the Porta Billing connector from the list of available destination connectors, then select the credential that will be used to connect to your Porta Billing account, and click Next; or, create a new Porta Billing credential for use in this flow.

Endpoint templates

Nexla provides pre-built templates that can be used to rapidly configure destinations to send data to common Porta Billing endpoints. Select the endpoint to which data will be sent from the Endpoint pulldown menu. Then, click on the template in the list below to expand it, and follow the instructions to configure additional endpoint settings.

Create resource

This endpoint template creates a resource of a given type in your Porta Billing account using records from a Nexset. Use this template when you need to create new resources such as customers, accounts, or other service resources in your Porta Billing account.

  • Enter the service name in the Service field. This should be the service name where you want to create the resource (e.g., Customer, Account). The service determines which Porta Billing service will receive the resource.
  • Enter the service endpoint in the Service endpoint field. This should be the endpoint that can be invoked on the selected service to create the resource (e.g., add_batch, create). The service endpoint determines which specific endpoint will be called on the selected service.

This endpoint sends data as JSON in the request body to create resources in your Porta Billing account. Each record from your Nexset will be sent as a separate API request to create a new resource in Porta Billing. The request body should contain the resource data in the format required by the Porta Billing API.

The resource structure must match the Porta Billing API's expected format for the selected service and service endpoint. For detailed information about resource creation, request body formats, available services, and resource management, see the Porta Billing API documentation.

Manual configuration

Porta Billing destinations can also be manually configured to send data to any valid Porta Billing API endpoint. Select the Advanced tab at the top of the configuration screen, and follow the instructions in Connect to Any API to configure the API method, data format, endpoint URL, and request body.

The Porta Billing API typically uses the POST method and expects JSON format for all requests (e.g., https://akweb.portaone.com:443/rest/Customer/add_batch). The request body format is typically {message.json} to send the entire Nexset data as JSON, or you can construct a custom JSON structure with specific field mappings that match the expected structure for the selected service and service endpoint.

Save & activate

Once all endpoint settings have been configured, click the Done button in the upper right corner of the screen to save and create the destination. To send the data to the configured Porta Billing endpoint, open the destination resource menu, and select Activate.

The Nexset data will not be sent to the Porta Billing endpoint until the destination is activated. Destinations can be activated immediately or at a later time, providing full control over data movement.
