Before creating a Financial Modelling Prep credential, you need a Financial Modelling Prep API key. FMP authenticates every request with an apikey value, which Nexla passes automatically as a query parameter on each API call.
Verify your email address if prompted, then sign in to open your account Dashboard.
Navigate to the Dashboard and open the API Keys section (also shown as Developer > API Keys in some layouts).
Copy your existing API key, or click to generate a new API key. The system generates a unique key that grants access to the FMP API endpoints based on your subscription plan.
Store the API key securely, as you will need it to configure your Nexla credential. Treat the key as a secret, since anyone with the key can make requests against your FMP account and consume your usage quota.
The endpoints and data available to your API key depend on your Financial Modelling Prep subscription plan. Some endpoints, higher request volumes, and longer historical ranges require a paid plan. For details about available endpoints and plan limits, see the Financial Modelling Prep documentation.
After selecting the data source type, click the Add Credential tile to open the Add New Credential overlay.
Enter a name for the credential in the Credential Name field and a short, meaningful description in the Credential Description field.
Enter your Financial Modelling Prep API key in the API Key Value field. This is the key you obtained in Prerequisites, and it is sent as the apikey query parameter to authenticate every request. This value is stored securely and should be kept confidential.
Enter the API base URL in the Base URL field. Unless you have been directed to use a different host, use the default value https://financialmodelingprep.com.
If your API key is compromised, generate a new key from your Financial Modelling Prep dashboard and update this credential. For more information about authentication, see the Financial Modelling Prep documentation.
Click the Save button at the bottom of the overlay. The newly added credential will now appear in a tile on the Authenticate screen during data source creation.
To create a new data flow, navigate to the Integrate section, and click the New Data Flow button. Select the Financial Modelling Prep connector tile, then select the credential that will be used to connect to Financial Modelling Prep, and click Next; or, create a new Financial Modelling Prep credential for use in this flow.
