YouTube Data
The YouTube Data API lets you retrieve and manage YouTube resources such as videos, channels, playlists, comments, and subscriptions. Nexla connects to the YouTube Data API v3 using OAuth 2.0, so you can ingest video, channel, comment, and search data into your flows or write playlists, comments, subscriptions, and video updates back to YouTube on behalf of an authorized account.

Prerequisites
The YouTube Data API uses OAuth 2.0 for authentication. To connect Nexla, you need an OAuth 2.0 client (a Client ID and Client Secret) created in a Google Cloud project that has the YouTube Data API v3 enabled. Requests act on behalf of the Google account that authorizes the connection, and the access granted is scoped to the permissions you request.
To obtain your OAuth 2.0 credentials, follow these steps:

Sign in to the Google Cloud Console and select an existing project or create a new one.

Open the API Library, search for YouTube Data API v3, and click Enable to activate the API for your project.

Configure the OAuth consent screen for your project, providing the required application details and adding any test users if the app is not yet published.

Go to the Credentials (Clients) page, click Create credentials > OAuth client ID, and select the Web application application type.

Add the authorized redirect URI required for the OAuth flow, then click Create.

Copy the Client ID and Client Secret shown after the client is created. The client secret is displayed only at creation time and cannot be retrieved again later, so store it securely.

Determine the OAuth scopes your integration needs (for example, read-only access versus scopes that permit managing playlists, comments, and subscriptions), and make sure they are approved for your consent screen.

Create a credential in Nexla

After selecting the data source/destination type, click the Add Credential tile to open the Add New Credential overlay.

Enter a name for the credential in the Credential Name field and a short, meaningful description in the Credential Description field.

Enter the Client ID and Client Secret from the OAuth 2.0 client you created in Prerequisites. The Authorization URL, Token URL, and Access Scope fields are pre-populated with the standard values for the YouTube Data API; adjust the Access Scope only if your use case requires different permissions.

Complete the OAuth 2.0 authorization flow when prompted, signing in with the Google account whose YouTube data you want to access and granting the requested permissions.
The connection acts on behalf of the account that authorizes it, and access is limited to the scopes you request. If your Client Secret is compromised, revoke the client in the Google Cloud Console and create a new OAuth 2.0 client.

Click the Save button at the bottom of the overlay. The newly added credential will now appear in a tile on the Authenticate screen during data source/destination creation.
Use as a data source
To create a new data flow, navigate to the Integrate section, and click the New Data Flow button. Select the YouTube Data connector tile, then select the credential that will be used to connect to the YouTube Data API, and click Next; or, create a new YouTube Data credential for use in this flow.
Endpoint templates
Nexla provides pre-built templates that can be used to rapidly configure data sources to ingest data from common YouTube Data API endpoints. Select the endpoint from which this source will fetch data from the Endpoint pulldown menu. Available endpoint templates are listed in the expandable boxes below.
Once the selected endpoint template has been configured, click the Test button to the right of the endpoint selection menu to retrieve a sample of the data that will be fetched. Sample data will be displayed in the Endpoint Test Result panel on the right, allowing you to verify that the source is configured correctly before saving.
Manual configuration
YouTube Data sources can also be manually configured to ingest data from any valid YouTube Data API endpoint, including endpoints not covered by the pre-built templates, chained API calls, or custom request parameters. Select the Advanced tab at the top of the configuration screen, and follow the instructions in Connect to Any API to configure the API method, endpoint URL, date/time and lookup macros, path to data, metadata, and request headers.
Once all of the relevant settings have been configured, click the Create button in the upper right corner of the screen to save and create the new YouTube Data source. Nexla will now begin ingesting data from the configured endpoint and will organize any data that it finds into one or more Nexsets.
Use as a destination
Click the + icon on the Nexset that will be sent to the YouTube Data destination, and select the Send to Destination option from the menu. Select the YouTube Data connector from the list of available destination connectors, then select the credential that will be used to connect to the YouTube Data API, and click Next; or, create a new YouTube Data credential for use in this flow.
Endpoint templates
Nexla provides pre-built templates that can be used to rapidly configure destinations to send data to common YouTube Data API endpoints. Select the endpoint to which data will be sent from the Endpoint pulldown menu. Then, click on the template in the list below to expand it, and follow the instructions to configure additional endpoint settings.
Manual configuration
YouTube Data destinations can also be manually configured to send data to any valid YouTube Data API endpoint. Select the Advanced tab at the top of the configuration screen, and follow the instructions in Connect to Any API to configure the API method, data format, endpoint URL, request headers, attribute exclusions, record batching, and response webhooks.
Save & activate
Once all endpoint settings have been configured, click the Done button in the upper right corner of the screen to save and create the destination. To send the data to the configured YouTube Data endpoint, open the destination resource menu, and select Activate.
The Nexset data will not be sent to the YouTube Data endpoint until the destination is activated. Destinations can be activated immediately or at a later time, providing full control over data movement.
