Prerequisites
Before creating a Workday Reporting credential, you need to obtain your Username, Password, and a valid custom report URL from your Workday account. Workday Reporting uses Basic Authentication for all API requests.
To obtain your Workday Reporting credentials, follow these steps:
-
Sign in to your Workday account using your administrator credentials.
-
Navigate to your account settings or user profile in your Workday dashboard.
-
Ensure that your user account has the required permissions to access Workday Reporting as a Service (RaaS) and generate custom reports.
-
Your Username is typically your Workday login username that you use to sign in to the system.
-
Your Password is the password associated with your Workday account.
-
To obtain a Custom Report URL, navigate to Reporting or Custom Reports in your Workday dashboard, and generate a custom report using the Reporting as a Service (RaaS) feature. The report should be configured to return JSON data. Copy the JSON URL generated for the report, as this will be used for credential validation.
-
Store all credentials securely, as you will need them to configure your Nexla credential. The Password is sensitive information and should be kept confidential.
The Username and Password are used in Basic Authentication for all API requests to the Workday Reporting API. The Custom Report URL is used to validate your credentials. If your credentials are compromised, you should immediately change your password in your Workday account. For detailed information about Workday Reporting, API authentication, and available endpoints, refer to the Workday documentation.

Create a credential in Nexla
- After selecting the data source/destination type, click the Add Credential tile to open the Add New Credential overlay.
New Credential Overlay – Workday Reporting

-
Enter a name for the credential in the Credential Name field and a short, meaningful description in the Credential Description field.
-
Enter your Username in the Username field. This is your Workday username that you use to sign in to the system. The Username is used as the username in Basic Authentication for all API requests to the Workday Reporting API.
-
Enter your Password in the Password field. This is your Workday password. The Password is used as the password in Basic Authentication for all API requests to the Workday Reporting API. The Password is sensitive information and must be kept confidential.
-
Enter your Authentication Test URL (Any valid custom report URL) in the Authentication Test URL (Any valid custom report URL) field. This should be any valid URL that should be used for validating your credentials. Enter any valid custom report URL generated using Workday Reporting as a Service (RaaS) feature that returns JSON data. This URL is used to test and validate your credentials during credential creation.
Your Workday Reporting credentials (Username, Password) are the same credentials you use to sign in to your Workday account. The Authentication Test URL should be a valid custom report URL generated using Workday Reporting as a Service (RaaS) feature that returns JSON data.
If your credentials are compromised, you should immediately change your password in your Workday account. The credentials provide access to your Workday account data and should be treated as sensitive information. Keep your credentials secure and do not share them publicly.
For detailed information about Workday Reporting, API authentication, and available endpoints, see the Workday documentation.
-
Click the Save button at the bottom of the overlay. The newly added credential will now appear in a tile on the Authenticate screen during data source/destination creation.
Use as a data source
To create a new data flow, navigate to the Integrate section, and click the New Data Flow button. Select the Workday Reporting connector tile, then select the credential that will be used to connect to the Workday Reporting instance, and click Next; or, create a new Workday Reporting credential for use in this flow.
Endpoint templates
Nexla provides pre-built templates that can be used to rapidly configure data sources to ingest data from common Workday Reporting endpoints. Select the endpoint from which this source will fetch data from the Endpoint pulldown menu. Available endpoint templates are listed in the expandable boxes below.
Once the selected endpoint template has been configured, click the Test button to the right of the endpoint selection menu to retrieve a sample of the data that will be fetched. Sample data will be displayed in the Endpoint Test Result panel on the right, allowing you to verify that the source is configured correctly before saving.
Manual configuration
Workday Reporting data sources can also be manually configured to ingest data from any valid Workday Reporting as a Service (RaaS) URL, including reports not covered by the pre-built template. Select the Advanced tab at the top of the configuration screen, and follow the instructions in Connect to Any API to configure the API method, endpoint URL, date/time and lookup macros, path to data, metadata, and request headers.
Workday Reporting as a Service (RaaS) responses are typically JSON with the report records nested in a Report_Entry array — set the path to data to $.Report_Entry[*] to extract each record as a separate record in the resulting Nexset.
Once all of the relevant settings have been configured, click the Create button in the upper right corner of the screen to save and create the new Workday Reporting data source. Nexla will now begin ingesting data from the configured endpoint and will organize any data that it finds into one or more Nexsets.
