Pre-built MCP Servers
Nexla's pre-built MCP servers are task-specific servers organized by use case, each with its own scoped set of tools. You get them through Nexla's listings in cloud marketplaces and AI client directories. The listing connects your AI client to the Nexla MCP Gateway, the layer on top of the pre-built servers that gives you one endpoint for all of their tools. Every tool call runs on behalf of the person who authenticated, using only the credentials in their own Nexla account.
How It Fits Together
| Layer | What it is |
|---|---|
| Nexla MCP Gateway | One endpoint, https://mcp.nexla.com, that the listing connects your client to. |
| Pre-built MCP servers | Task-specific servers, one per use case, such as Renewal Call Prep. |
| Tools | The scoped tools inside each pre-built server. Your agent finds and runs them through the gateway. |
How Pre-built Servers Are Built
Nexla builds its pre-built servers with MCP Studio. For each use case, Nexla reaches the systems involved through its 1,000+ connectors, probes them with MCP Studio's Agentic Probe, and builds named tools from what it finds. You can edit a pre-built server in MCP Studio -- see Edit or Build a Server in MCP Studio.
Each server contains only the scoped tools its use case needs, so your agent's search returns a small, relevant set of purpose-built tools instead of every operation across Nexla's connectors.
Example: Renewal Call Prep
Renewal Call Prep helps account teams get ready for a customer renewal call. Its tools:
- Read HubSpot companies, deals and notes.
- Read Avoma meeting insights and transcripts.
- Search Jira issues.
- Create a HubSpot note or update a HubSpot deal.
The last two change data in HubSpot, so your client may ask you to confirm before they run.
Prerequisites
- A Nexla account. You sign in with Google, a Microsoft work or school account, or your Nexla email and password. See Sign-In Options.
- An AI client that supports MCP servers, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot or Cursor.
- Access to the systems the pre-built servers read from. You can add the credentials to your Nexla account when a tool first asks for them.
Get Started
One listing gives you access to all the pre-built servers available to you.
- Find Nexla in a cloud marketplace or your AI client's connector directory, and add it. The listing connects your client to the Nexla MCP Gateway.
- Sign in when your client asks. See Sign-In Options.
- Your agent can now use the tools of the pre-built servers available to you. See How an Agent Uses the Gateway.
If your client has no Nexla listing, add https://mcp.nexla.com yourself. See Connect Your Client.
Use the Pre-built Servers
- Ask your agent a question that a pre-built server's use case covers.
- Check the tool calls in your client. The agent calls
search_toolto find the right tool,describe_toolto check its inputs, thencall_tool_readorcall_tool_writeto run it. - If a tool needs a system you haven't connected yet, follow the prompt to add a credential through a secure Nexla link, then retry the request. You enter the secret in Nexla, not in the chat.
What Is Inside a Pre-built Server
- Named MCP tools -- Each tool has a description written for agents, so the agent knows when to call it and what to pass.
- Governed data -- Every tool comes with a schema, documentation and access controls.
- Managed auth -- Credentials stay in Nexla. The Nexla control plane handles token refresh, credential rotation and expiry, and agents never see raw credentials, tokens or secrets.
- On-behalf-of access -- Every tool call runs as the person who authenticated, using only the credentials in their own Nexla account. See On-Behalf-Of Access.
- Full audit trail -- Every tool call is logged with who, what and when. See Audit & Receipts.
- Open MCP standard -- Works with Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Cursor, custom agent frameworks and other MCP clients that support Streamable HTTP. Clients without MCP sign-in can connect with a service key -- see Sign-In Options.
Edit or Build a Server in MCP Studio
You don't need MCP Studio to use the pre-built servers. Open it when you want to edit a pre-built server, or to build a new task-specific server when no pre-built server matches your process. You describe what you need in plain English, review the tools Studio proposes, and build the server. MCP Studio is available in Express at express.dev. See Build a Server.
